ABOUT

My name is Chelsey Nelms and I am a  lover of all animals, children, and have a heart for those lonely in spirit. I am a wife to the most talented and steady man I have ever met,  and mom to three wild and adventurous boys. We live in a valley in beautiful Southwestern VA where we raise bulls for our rodeo company, BSN Rodeo. Life is full and constant, and I thank Jesus for it everyday.

The idea of the Cowboy Lady & Company came straight out of a hay field. I was in my twenties and - having just come home from working on a dude ranch in Montana - I was living in a barn apartment in the North Georgia Mountains. At the time I was working for the Georgia Department of Agriculture as an inspector, and in exchange for rent, I worked for my elderly landlords teaching horseback riding lessons, bush hogging, mowing, basically anything they needed done to care for their farm. I’ll never forget that particular day. I turned off the tractor and just sat in that field. I was crying and lonely. My biggest desire was to get married early, have kids, and work alongside my husband. I wasn’t sure how he was ever going to “find me” and I was so discouraged. I decided right then and there to change my prayer from “please send me my husband,” to “show me what You want me to pour into while I wait.” It was at that moment that the Cowboy Lady & Company started forming in my mind. It had a very humble beginning. I started making jewelry and t-shirts and sold them at local rodeos. I had made plans to go to a bull riding finals, but was hesitant the night before because of a huge snowstorm that hit the area. With my humble beginning, I wasn’t sure going with a gamble on a crown would benefit me. It didn’t make sense to me to go, but I didn’t have peace about not going, so I decided to pray about it that night and make a final decision in the morning. The morning brought peace to keep my plans regardless of the weather.  Little did I know, the man I had been praying for was going to be there. In a whirlwind we met at the finals (thanks to a persistent friend!), dated, got engaged after 3 months, and married after 5. He is the answer to every prayer I prayed in those times, and God faithfully fulfilled a calling He spoke to my heart in college- He told me then that I was going to marry a man in rodeo and we would make that our mission field. We are living that now with our family; at our rodeos God is always a topic of conversation and is openly the reason we do what we do, we support our local churches, and support whatever organization that God chooses for us each year. To continue our mission, we felt God leading us to incorporate a western lifestyle brand for kids like ours. Each item has a specific Bible verse attached to  it, and is unique in the fact that the goal of the brand isn’t to compete with anyone, but to fill a void in the industry.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and for supporting the Cowboy Lady & Company. My hope is that everyone  who visits this website knows that God has a plan for their life. He will fulfill the desires He places in your heart and give you an avenue to use them. I struggled for a long time thinking that I wasn’t special enough for God to have a plan specific for my life. But that is not how God sees us. He gifts us each uniquely for His service. One day, when I’m no longer on this earth, I want my legacy to live on through my kids. I want to be remembered as the person that made people feel important, was there when they needed them, and who you could count on to always give wisdom when asked. I want God to always, noticeably guide my heart.  God didn’t call me to be a rodeo star or have my name in lights. He humbly called me, who is scared to death to be in front of anyone, to accept that He has a plan for me and to just say yes. God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called; and just like me, you too are called. All you have to do is say yes.
